Wire Rope Kits

Wire rope is the most common method of attaching netting to hard surfaces such as cement, brickwork and colorbond fences. This is also the method employeed for the majority of professionally installed enclosures. It is cost effective, gives a neat and professional finish and uses the least amount of drilling necessary.

Basic Principal:

This method involves the installation of a tensioned wire rope which then acts as a support for net hanging. The netting is then attached to the rope using our NET-CLIPS or cable ties.

Can I install this myself? Only a basic level of handyman work is required, and most customers can successfully install a wire rope system. We supply a range of KITS, and they include all the basics you need to install it. (wire rope itself is sold seperately)

The wire rope is then fed through the eyelets, and secured at each end using the supplied rope grip. At one other end, the wire rope is attached to a "turnbuckle" and hand tightened. The turnbuckle is screws clockwise to tension the rope. Once the rope is tensioned, you can then simply attach the netting to the rope using our net clips or cable ties. When using only one turnbuckle, distances of up to 15metres are recommended. If you place a turnbuckle at each end we recommend distances up to 30m, before you lose tension. You can also purchase additional eyelets for long runs and for going around corners.

Useful Tips for Installation

  • The longterm quality of the installation largely depends on the securing of the eyelets. The wire can be periodically retensioned to help maintain the integrity of the installation, however gradually loosening eyelets can cause the wire to lose tension. If the eyelets are fitted securely the first time, the initial installation and long term success of the enclosures will be a great success.
  • As the wire rope is tensioned over long distances, it can have a tendency to want to pull away from the wall/fence. To stop this bowing effect (especially in possible "escape" areas), we recommend placing additional eyelets along the length of the run to keep the wire tight against the surface. We generally recommend placing an eyelet every 1-2 metres, however the more you use the more secure the wire will remain.
